Pat, (03)
The point of the exercise is to respond to Mills Davis' request for
input (See:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontolog-forum/2006-09/msg00031.html
). Mills seems to be focusing more on future applications (Although
Steve Ray is very interested in existing, demonstratable applications.) (04)
The list, itself, came out of a brainstorming exercise at last week's
Ontolog call and includes a few follow-up postings to Ontolog with
other suggestions. It is not meant to be exhaustive. (05)
As part of this exercise, Bob and I started to put together a
characterization framework what helps address some of the questions
that you pose. We decided that it was too complex to use for this
exercise, however, and would likely create more confusion than
clarity. I suggest that we consider launching a small project around
these questions to inventory a more comprehensive range of
ontology-driven applications and forego ranking them, focusing,
instead, on describing each "application" in more detail. (06)
