Looks like we are getting a very exciting dialog going about
"Database and Ontologies" (or whatever tangent that takes the
community off too. This is great! ... and I hope we can all get
something out of it, professionally.    (01)

Thanks to all for their contribution ... do keep it up!    (02)

That said, this is not for everyone either. ... The following is
an edited version of the exchange I just had with a member of the
community. I hope this serves as a FAQ answer to those who cannot
afford the time (or have no immediate interest in the topic being
heatedly debated.)    (03)

[ppy] We don't usually get that much traffic ... someone must
have struck the right chord ... Sorry! :-)    (05)

Before asking to be unsubscribed, I want to run two other options
by you about our mailing list. We can actually set the list
distribution 3 different ways:    (06)

(i) the default distributes postings to a subscriber's inbox
(which is the option you are in now, by default.)    (07)

(ii) a daily digest option (where the whole day's messages gets
rolled into one, and that gets delivered to your inbox.)    (08)

(iii) a 'no mail' option, where nothing gets delivered to your
inbox, and you go catch up on community exchanges at the forum
archives (see archive at:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontolog-forum/).    (09)

The only difference between (iii) and my unsubscribing you all
together is, psychologically, whether or not you are still part
of the community. Makes no difference in terms of the
availability of the content to you. (Of course, members do get to
post to the forum, and non-members don't.)    (010)

That's the virtue (and the sin) of the 'open' Internet. Neither
you or I have (or want to have) control over it. I hope the
options I presented above would help mitigate the situation. All
options are open to you ... and you, alone, decide, when and how
you like to engage.

That said, I don't want to see anyone leave the community because
it's started to get interesting. Therefore if you just don't want
that much traffic, drop me a note, and I can set you up for
options (ii) or (iii) (mentioned above). You can actually do it
yourself too (if you still have your password, go to:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/mailman/listinfo/ontolog-forum ... the
option is at the bottom of that page.)    (012)

Cheers.  =ppy
