Pat, Dagobert and Brand,    (01)

Further to the Ontolog session with Doug Lenat yesterday,    (02)

You might remember, I asked Doug if he would be willing to do a
panel session with other principals of upper ontologies to try to
move toward alignment of the upper ontologies, and he said "yes,
I might even be diplomatic!" (which, actually did surprise me,
because he told Kurt earlier that he is totally uninterested in
doing so.)    (03)

The proposition for a session like this has been on Ontolog's
agenda since Jan. 2005 (ref:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologDiscussion#nidBYY)
and has been sitting on our weekly conference call agenda ever
since (from
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2005_02_10#nid55R
to
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2005_10_06#nidGMD).     (04)

Now that we have finally had Adam Pease (SUMO), Chris Welty, (who
was actually speaking from Nicola Guarino's office; DOLCE) and
Doug Lenat (Cyc) all speak as invited speakers at Ontolog (and
none of them objecting to sitting down together), it is high time
to get this event organized quickly.    (05)

SICoP/ONTAC-WG has since formed (and SICoP/CUO-WG earlier), and
obviously, this is something near-and-dear to the ONTAC/COSMO
effort. I am writing to explore if we could make this into a
joint virtual event that we could put together some time soon.    (06)

If you like the idea, let pick a time to do a planning call about
it. If so, among other things, we would want to decide:    (07)

(a) when to do it,    (08)

(b) who will moderate the session,    (09)

(c) who else to invite as panelists - besides having
representation from SUMO, DOLCE and Cyc.    (010)

(d) how do we frame the issues, and    (011)

(e) who would we want/expect to get out of this -- best case, and
worst case scenarios.    (012)

What do you think?    (013)

All: Comments & suggestions, ... welcomed.    (014)

Cheers.  =ppy
