Dear Matthew,    (01)

The assumption of property instances is orthogonal to the
assumption of a 4-D ontology.    (02)

In other discussions, you have consistently argued for an ontology
that is strictly extensional. That is also an assumption that is
orthogonal to the 3-D vs. 4-D viewpoint.    (05)

I sympathize with the desire to minimize the ontological commitment,
but it is important to make each of your assumptions explicit,
rather than claim that they all follow from a single 4-D perspective.    (06)

As I have said many times, I don't believe that there is any ideal
ontology that is adequate for all possible purposes. I believe
that both 4-D and 3-D ontologies are equally valid and useful
for various purposes. I would not recommend that either one
be adopted to the exclusion of the other.    (07)

Therefore, I prefer to have all assumptions made explicit so that
one can pick and choose which ones to adopt for any application.    (08)
