Hello all, sorry I missed the follow-up last week, I have been swamped with
projects lately. (01)
I have added my name to the list of those who wish to participate with
item number 5 below (keeping the research of the framework going), on the
Wiki page. (02)
Thanks,
Chuck (03)

Ontolog conference call Thu
2007.06.07 - OntologySummit2007
Please respond to follow-up discussions
Ontology Summit
2007 Forum
<ontology-summit@
ontolog.cim3.net> (05)
We had a productive post-Summit conference meeting on 7-Jun-2007.
Thanks to all who were able to join. (06)
Proceedings of the meeting can be found at:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2007_06_07 (07)
... Please review. (08)
Highlights: (09)
1. We all agreed to focus more effort into continuing the good work
that was started with OntologySummit2007, and feel a need to
communicate the outcomes to the broader community, both to achieve the
originally intended objective, as well as to clarify some of the
misconceptions (on the summit's objective) that still seem to be
floating around. (010)
2. MichaelGruninger will lead the authorship of a paper to report on
the Proceedings, the Communique, and other aspects of the Summit, that
will be submitted to the "Applied Ontology" journal for publication
(similar to what was done last year by LeoObrst for the
UpperOntologySummit (2006)). (011)
3. We encourage more participation on the initiative TomGruber
initialized to collaboratively write-up (on the
OntologWiki:OntologyDistinctions page), distinguishing properties of
ontologies as we know them (ref: his earlier post -
http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontology-summit/2007-04/msg00182.html).
Tom will champion the consolidation of our community's contributions,
and will push that to wikipedia, so it may reach a even broader
audience. (012)
4. KenBaclawski has agreed to head up an effort to 'populate' the
'framework' with artifacts contributed by the various
respondants/constituencies during the survey. He will be soliciting
and coordinating additional contribution from the community - in terms
of providing and populating the framework with more exemplary
artifacts, and in validating the measures and evaluation of the
population exercises. (013)
5. We agreed that the need is there for ongoing research and
development work to further refine the 'framework' and its associated
metric, and to culminate that effort in an academic/research paper
(the suggestion originally brought up earlier by OlivierBodenreider
although he conceded that he will not be in a position to head up that
task). The following people have indicated interest to pursue it:
MichaelGruninger, LeoObrst, TomGruber, DeborahMcGuinness,
KenBaclawski, OlivierBodenreider (review role only), PeterYim, ...
(anyone else interested could add your name to
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2007#nid11P2 or
e-mail the undersigned.) (11P3) (014)
6. From a meta-level, SusanTurnbull appreciates the whole
OntologySummit2007 process and proceedings as an exemplary case of a
Community of Practice effort. She will be featuring that on the
upcoming Tue 2007.07.17 Collaborative Expedition Workshop (CEW#63 to
be held at NSF, Arlington, VA, USA) as part of her exposition into the
process, dynamics, potential and realities of virtual communities
during that one-day workshop. PeterYim was invited to present and
will be the liaison to help put together speakers/panelists for the
event. We solicit those in the community who have been active in
organizing and contributing to the Summit to join the panel and share
their insight. Please e-mail the uindersigned offline on/before Thu
2007.06.21 to indicate interest, especially if you are local to the
greater Washington DC area. (015)
7. Updates has been made to the OntologySummit2007 wiki page(s). In
particular, see: (016)
(a) new section on "Follow-up Plans and Actions (Tasks)" where the
above efforts are documented and (later) linked-to -
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2007#nid11OV (017)
(b) updates to the section on OntologySummit2007 "On the News,
Grapevine & Blogosphere" -
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2007#nid10XC
... in particular, I would like to highlight a great article, posted
by Michael Bergman / 2007.05.16 entitled "An Intrepid Guide to
Ontologies" where the summit has been mentioned. See:
http://www.mkbergman.com/?p=374 (Great job, Mike, thanks you! ... we
invite you to join our community.) (018)
(c) audio archives to all the Summit sessions are already up (see
section near the bottom of each session page). Individual presentation
recordings will soon be up too (within the near few days.) (019)
Again, thanks to everyone for their contribution to OntologySummit2007
and the follow-up work. (020)
Best regards. =ppy
