I'm having a hard time with "each meaning was defined once."    Aren't a meaning & a definition the same thing?

The OAD offers this for DEFINITION: "a statement of the exact meaning of a word, esp. in a dictionary."

OAD offers this for MEANING: "what is meant by a word, text, concept, or action"   [I love—not!—those recursive definitions in dictionaries... but hey, it's the OAD.]

I read these OAD definitions—per JFS's admonishments—and come away with the understanding that definition = meaning.  Is there some other secret code I need to grok the OAD (which I think is about as high on the language food chain as I can get).
