Since Ferenc brought up the question about mental imagery and
I cited Kosslyn's papers, I decided to browse through some of
them myself. Many of them get into very detailed research
issues, but the following paper is a good, readable overview

When Kosslyn started his research, the idea of mental imagery was
not considered a respectable topic of study because introspection
was rejected for not being objective. But Kosslyn developed a variety
of objectively testable research techniques. As time went on and
brain scanning became better refined, the studies could be further
verified with complementary evidence from multiple sources. (03)
