just for you:

definition 2.a is "a statement expressing the essential nature of something"

and actually there is even better:

definition 2.b is "a statement of the meaning of a word or word group or a sign or symbol"

and if you don need cookies just switch it off.

Are you aware of the Wall Street Journal series about privacy (the lack there-of) on the web?   If memory serves www.dictionary.com (which owns Merriam-Webster) is hands down the worst offender for putting tracking cookies on your computer.  Hit dictionary.com for how to spell obesity correctly & you'll be dogged by weight-loss ads.  Age appropriate, of course, since they already know that about you.  Nice, eh?
