Antoinette, Sean    (01)

I think this paper is a great work and references many others and I also
will study it in detail.    (02)

I have tried many times to talk around the factors that lead Ranganathan
(*reference19 in the Curation PDF) toward his colon classification
(similarly many multitudes of such concepts in Sanskrit texts) but have
not yet had many responses from our participants and I thought that
concepts from other ways of thinking about Reasoning and Logic were not
very much encouraged! Of course, it would require thinking outside the
notion that all we know about these subjects came largely from Greek
Civilization, although I agree from historic connectivity in Western
thought that many new advances can be easily connected to well -
documented, Greek thought!
Please recall many threads and comments in the past relating to them
from me relating to these subjects and context, concepts (now may be a
concept sharing context?), metaphysics and science, process by which we
understand, etc.    (03)

We have probably had also the effect that as a result some active
participants have not stayed that active? Or they may be on reduced
summer schedules?    (04)

Thanks.    (05)

This paper is a gold mine! It contains references to at the very least,
and probably contributions from many of our ontolog friends including
Dagobert and Chris Welty who spoke last week. It addresses the main
issues we face with ontologies and controlled vocabularies citing many
standards. Such issues include: Ontologies as indexing language,
Ontology correlation, Ontology presentation, Ontologies for schema
integration, Formats, and Standards.    (014)

The Digital Curation Centre in January added a chapter on ontologies:    (017)

DCC Digital Curation Manual Instalment on "Ontologies" by Martin Doerr
http://www.dcc.ac.uk/resource/curation-manual/chapters/ontologies/    (018)

It provides some interesting links from the libraries and curation view
of the world onto ontologies, including some suggestions on moving from
current indexing systems and thesauri to ontologies. One comment worth
quoting:    (019)

"Do not try to hide your ontology or to make money out of it. "Widely
used ontology has value. Any obstacle to its take-up reduces your other
returns from the investment."    (020)
