There is a separate but related issue in the long term data retention
area, of getting vendors to output OUR data in a standard format (not
THEIR proprietary format), so we can use it long after they stop
supporting their software. In particular, how can one demonstrate
conformance to safety or other regulations if the software that was used
to design the product is no longer available?    (05)

The problem is not only keeping the data, but keeping the knowledge that
is used to interpret the data, and keeping the knowledge of how to use
the knowledge of how to interpret the data. Expect to see semantic drift
drifting up industrial priorities over the next few years.    (06)
