Dear Kandan    (01)

>From what I understand from your post your research question is more
in the 'expertise modelling' and 'rule based system' area, than
purely ontology at this stage.    (02)

You need to make a set of rules to decide what is a 'valid' sand cast
and create an inference network from there. so that any instance that
would not be conform to any rule would come up as an error or an
exception and handled accordingly
(depending on how you design the system)    (03)

>From what I know KIF (knowledge interchange format) is more concerned
with representation at the exchange level (communication between
systems) rather than at the inference level (decision layer of what
should be executed or not executed by the system)    (04)

I recommend you read 'expert systems' by Durkin before finalising your
system design
CommonKADS is the method I would suggest you look up for knowledge
analysis and design, and would leave KIF to the final stage, of
external representation (first you need to model the knowledge only
later you can exchange it)    (05)

hope this is useful
Cheers    (06)
