Wonderful presentations and discussion today, as usual, in our
"Ontology Applications & Implementations" Technical Discussion
Session. (01)
It was unfortunate that Dr. Denise Bedford felt sick, and was not
able to join us today. Her presentation is being postponed to a
later date. ... Get well soon, Denise! (02)
Kudos to Mr. Duane Nickull (Adobe Systems) and Mr. Kurt Conrad
(The Sagebrush Group, and Ontolog co-convener) for having
masterminded, organized and moderated this session. Judging from
the responses, this promises to be, again, the first of a series
of discussions we can have. Through this series, our community
can continue to discover what is out there, in terms of
ontologically based applications, and with such cases, allow us
to compare notes, and delve into the success stories, issues and
challenges they bring. (03)
Proceedings of today's session are captured at our wiki page, at:

In particular, full audio recording of the session (along with
the panelists' slides) is now available too - see:

Questions and discourse today were almost evenly distributed
between the theory and the practice of ontologies. For those who
to find out more about the former, Dr. Leo Obrst from MITRE (and
Ontolog co-convener), will be presenting again, in a full
"Ontolog Invited Speaker" session on Thursday, January 12, 2006.
His talk will be on: "What is an ontology? - A Briefing on the
Range of Semantic Models." There's going to be a lot in this talk
for both beginners and veterans alike. Mark you calendars now and
refer to details on the Ontolog wiki closer to the time. (06)
Best regards. =ppy (07)
P.S. Please note that we will break for two weeks for the Holiday
Season. Therefore, there will be no conference call on Thursdays
2005.12.22 & 2005.12.29.
P.P.S. Our next regular active members conference call will be on
Thu 2005.01.05 (Kurt Conrad will chair the session), and the
immediate week after that, we'll be having Leo Obrst's "What is
an ontology?" session. (08)
... 'til then, Happy Holidays, everyone! =ppy
