Hi Everyone,    (01)

So much is happening lately that "ontology" efforts might finally
have turned the corner. Dr. Brand Niemann has even invited the
press to help "Declaring October as Ontology Month" in his Oct.
10, 2005 GCN speech. (Ref:
http://colab.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?SICoP#nid2ZDG)    (02)

For the Ontolog community, this is what we have in store over the
next few weeks:    (03)

1. 2005.10.27: In view of the fact that the (US) National Center
for Ontological Research (NCOR) is having their Inaugural Event
at Buffalo, New York on Thu Oct. 27, 2005, and a good number of
our community members will actually be there at the event, the
regular Ontolog conference call on that date is being canceled.
We have been informed that NCOR will be video-taping the event,
and will make that available later. (see: http://ncor.us)    (04)

2. 2005.11.03: As you would have noticed from Rex Brooks'
(moderator) announcement earlier, we will be having a "Health
Informatics Landscape - Take-II" panel discussion on Thu, Nov. 3,
2005. RSVP now. Refer to details at:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2005_11_03    (05)

3. 2005.11.10: We have just been invited to co-organize a joint
discussion session with SICoP to bring together the relevant
parties to explore the differentiation and synergy among the many
eGovernment-related Ontological Community efforts. We have
tentatively scheduled this for Thu Nov. 10, 2005. Dr. Brand
Niemann has graciously accepted to be our moderator for the
session. Since we will not have a chance to get this organized
over a regular call, I'll be starting a new thread on the forum,
and we will have to get this event organized, in short order,
strictly over the mailing list and the wiki. Comments, suggestion
and help on the organizational effort are solicited. The draft
wiki session page has already been initialized. See:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2005_11_10    (06)

4. 2005.11.17: Our invited speaker for November will be Dr. Doug
Lenat, founder of the Cyc project, and a true pioneer in
ontological engineering. That is scheduled for Thursday, November
17, 2005. Mark your calendars now, and watch out for the
announcement. Details (not there yet, as of this writing) will
soon be posted to the wiki session page at:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2005_11_17    (07)

5. 2005.11.24: Rejoice! Nov. 24, 2005 will be Thanksgiving Day (a
public holiday) in the US. We will not have our regular
conference call that day either. Please note.    (08)

Regards.  =ppy
