Qualitative Constraint Calculi: Integration and Application    (02)

Workshop at KI 2006, Bremen, Germany
                            June 14th, 2006    (03)

Aims and scope    (06)

In the domain of qualitative reasoning, a subfield of AI which has
evolved in the last 25 years, a large number of calculi for efficient
reasoning about spatial and temporal entities have been developed.
Qualitative reasoning aims at describing the common-sense background
knowledge on which our human perspective on the physical reality is
based. The calculi, that is, formal languages and reasoning
techniques, developed in this research area are of special interest
for all application fields that rely on human-machine interaction in
static or dynamically changing spatial environments. The workshop
will provide a forum for researchers from different subfields of AI
research (including Qualitative Reasoning, Logic, Constraint Solving,
Computational Linguistics, and Ontologies) to discuss the challenges
and open problems within qualitative spatial reasoning, particularly
with respect to the integration and possible application of
these calculi.    (07)

Topics    (08)

The workshop topics include, but are not limited to:    (09)

* Integration of qualitative calculi in a unified algebraic framework
* Combinations of qualitative calculi
* Constraint satisfaction and constraint solvers
* Qualitative calculi and ontologies
* Applications of qualitative calculi in robotics, human-machine
   interaction, and computational linguistics.    (010)

Important Dates    (015)

May 1, 2006 Submission deadline for workshop papers
May 15, 2006 Notification
May 24, 2006 Camera ready papers due
June 14, 2006 Workshop    (016)

Submission details    (017)

Authors are invited to submit a full paper in PDF-format describing
original work. Submissions should not exceed 12 pages and conform to
Springer LNCS style. Papers must be written in English. Please send
your submission electronically to ki2006qcc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
by the deadline listed above. Submitted papers will be reviewed by the
workshop's programme committee and additional reviewers. Accepted
papers will appear in the workshop proceedings, which are published by
KI 2006 and are distributed at the workshop side. In addition, there
will be a joint CD- and Web-publication of all the workshop
proceedings. The format for the final versions will be available on
the workshop website. If the quality of the contributed papers is
clearly above average, we will try to organize a special journal issue
on the topic.    (018)

Workshop format    (019)

The workshop is part of KI 2006 and is open to all KI 2006 participants.
It will consist of three 90-minute sessions held on June 14, 2006.
There will be 2 or 3 slots for paper presentation and discussion per
session.    (020)

Local Arrangements    (021)

All workshop participants are required to register for KI 2006, and
must specify which workshop they are going to attend. At least one of
the authors of an accepted paper must register for KI 2006 and present
the paper at the workshop.    (022)
