This note will suggest one point that might be worthwhile resolving -
if possible - before the Upper Ontology Summit - the use of IKRIS
results.    (02)

First, to recall the dual purpose of the meeting: (1) to find a
technical method to interrelated the existing upper ontologies to each
other, to permit reuse of knowledge in alternative representations
where possible; and (2) to publicize the advanced state of ontology
engineering by means of a public communique from the panelists. The
communique can be discussed in a separate thread.    (03)

The anticipated results of the IKRIS project
(http://nrrc.mitre.org/NRRC/ikris.htm) should begin to become available
publicly by April. Those who are familiar with the results thus far
could indicate:
(1) whether the proposed IKL is or will be a proper basis as the format
for representation of knowledge suitable for use in any of the existing
upper ontologies;
(2) whether the knowledge content developed within the scenarios group
will be translatable into each of the existing upper ontologies, and
might form a component of a common subset ontology;
(3) whether any agreement has been reached on how to incorporate
contexts into reasoning methods.    (04)

I am myself unfamiliar with the details of the IKRIS project, other
than the incomplete note on IKL authored by Pat Hayes. The current
(changing) version of paper is available at:
   http://www.ihmc.us/users/phayes/IKL/INTEROP/INTEROPERABILITY.html
It is still in preparation, and PH requests that it not be cited, but
as a publicly visible document we will be able to discuss its
suitability to our purposes.    (05)

Please use this list to make any other suggestions for topics to
discuss related to the Upper Ontology Summit. The archives are
publicly visible, though the list itself is controlled by a restricted
membership mechanism, and the archive location has not been publicly
disclosed.    (06)
