Hello Joab,    (01)

Re your write-up at: http://gcn.com/articles/2009/04/07/nist-ontology.aspx    (02)

Great job ... thank you *very* much for capturing the essence of such
a complex issue in such elegant prose!    (03)

Joab,    (06)

I just wanted to personally thank you for covering our
summit. Since you posted the notice about the article to the
ontology-summit list, I imagine you are reading the responses that it
has produced. Some people are also squirming a bit about the title
claiming data reuse is not possible without ontological work (it’s
could be possible, but just much harder without ontologies) but I
imagine it would be difficult to change the title of the article – and
not very attention-grabbing if it were to say “Data reuse more
difficult without ontological work”. I recognize the constant tension
between engineers and scientists on the one hand, who want to avoid
overstepping a claim, and the media (and the political world, I would
venture) who strive for clarity in a message.    (07)

In any case, I will continue to think about the
comments coming in on the list, and review your article. If I come up
with something that I think is critical to amend, I will let you know.    (08)

Thanks again,    (09)

- Steve    (010)

Hello!    (013)

Joab Jackson here from Government Computer News… I've written up a
quick summary of the communiqué and the meeting. We posted it
yesterday:    (014)

http://gcn.com/articles/2009/04/07/nist-ontology.aspx    (015)

I’ve tried to capture the details as accurately as possible, but if I
made any mistakes, please shoot me an email and we’ll get them
corrected.    (016)

I know the new administration is talking quite a bit about government
reuse of data, so this topic is quite pertinent these days.    (017)

Thanks again for letting me attend…    (018)

Joab    (019)
