Three virtual panel sessions and a sync-up conference call have been
scheduled to faciliate discussion and collect input on this year's

*Thu 12 Mar 2009* - Professor Michael Gruninger will lead a virtual
panel session on the "Ontology Community Perspectives Toward
Ontology-based Standards" ... *RSVP now*!    (03)

*Thu 19 Mar 2009* - Mr. Howard Mason will lead a virtual panel session
on the "Standards Community Perspectives Toward Ontology-based
Standards"    (04)

*Thu 26 Mar 2009* - Dr. Steven Ray will lead a virtual panel session
entitled: "Toward Ontology-based Standards - A Synthesis." He will be
focusing efforts to identify a short list of existing standards or
models that would lend themselves to formal remodeling (ontologizing).    (05)

*Thu 2 Apr 2009* - we will be having a community-wide virtual session
to sync-up in preparation of the OntologySummit2009 face-to-face
workshop at NIST the following week ( 6 & 7-Apr-2009, Gaithersburg,
Maryland, USA; remote participation supported. )    (06)

As part of the OntologySummit2009 program, we have scheduled these
virtual events, in the form of augmented conference calls, to
collaboratively develop the community's perspectives and position on
this year's Ontology Summit theme on working "Toward Ontology-based
Standards."  You are cordially invited to join us to share your

*Thu 12 Mar 2009* - Professor Michael Gruninger (ISO 18629 PSL;
University of Toronto) has put together an expert panel that (so far)
include Professor Barry Smith (SUNY-Buffalo), Mr. Edward Barkmeyer
(NST), Mr. Nicola Guarino (Laboratory for Applied Ontology, Italy),
Professor William McCarthy (Michigan State University) and Mr. Conrad
Bock (NIST), who will be briefing the participants before the session
opens up to discussion on the subject of the "Ontology Community
Perspectives Toward Ontology-based Standards." ... Please refer to

*Thu 19 Mar 2009* - Mr. Howard Mason (ISO TC 184/SC 4; BAE Systems)
will lead a virtual panel session on the "Standards Community
Perspectives Toward Ontology-based Standards."  Again, the session
will start with briefings from an expert panel before going into deep
discussion among the panelists and the participants. ... Please refer

*Thu 26 Mar 2009* - Dr. Steven Ray (ISO 10303 STEP; previously NIST)
will lead a third virtual panel session entitled: "Toward
Ontology-based Standards - A Synthesis." He will start pragmatically
with his panel, by focusing efforts into identifying a short list of
existing standards or models that would lend themselves to formal
remodeling (ontologizing). This discussion will lead up to the
development of this year's Ontology Summit Communique.  ... Please
