The challenge of relating ontologies so that the instance data
associated with the ontologies can effectively interoperate has been
researched and debated for a long time -- seriously for the last
decade, and arguably, for the past six decades since the inception of
artificial intelligence, or, some would even say, that this has been
going on for millennia. (09)
Informed by the Upper Ontology Summit (2006) dialog, with support from
the OntologySummit2008 as well as the OpenOntologyRepository work, and
prompted by rigorous discussion on the [ontolog-forum] mailing list
over the past 2~3 months, and synthesized by Dr. John Sowa drawing
upon his "lattice of theories" and other related approaches, the
community has finally made a leap into starting a project to implement
some of the ideas that have been considered. The result is the
founding of the "Shared and Integrated Ontologies (SIO)" project as
the conclusion of our recent 16-Mar-2010 post Ontology Summit session. (010)
If you are among those who want to see the sharing and integration of
ontologies as an enabler for improved information and data
interoperability, we cordially invite you to join us at this session,
and to sign up and contribute to this new "Shared and Integrated
Ontologies (SIO)" project community effort. (011)
*RSVP* by emailing the sender (<mailto:peter.yim@xxxxxxxx>, offline
please, and state the date of the event your are registering for) or
add yourself directly to the session page if you are already an
Ontolog or prior-year ontology-summit community member) so that we can
prepare enough resources to support everyone. (012)
We shall look forward to your participation tomorrow! (013)
Regards. =ppy
