It is hard to retrofit / put semantics in a legacy developed tool from Mainframe vintage as these MDM tools do.

Therefore newer tools that are rich in semantics and do simultaneous ontology and MDM integration at least conceptually and in detail as John has expanded (namely physical objects and processes relationships with ontologies and also database E-R in one suite) would be desirable.

Could you elaborate on the 'holistic' aspect you mention?
