With modern computers, the signs and types of signs have proliferated.
Most of those signs have highly indirect links to human languages and
to the physical things and processes they represent. For ontology,
a classification of the many types of signs and their relationships
is essential.    (01)

Last Thursday, Ed Barkmeyer presented some slides that show the
relationships among the kinds of "codes" and the conventions for

I recommend this presentation as an overview of the kinds of
issues that ISO standard 11179 addresses and their implications
for ontology.    (04)
