I was there (yesterday) and saw a few others from this community -
among them Jack Park (TopicQuests), Eric Chan (Oracle). While mostly
locals, there were folks flying in all the way from Philadelphia
(although IBM had actually hosted a similar event in New York earlier)
and other US cities as well. (03)
Leveraging the fact that the Watson team is out here (in the Silicon
Valley), IBM was hosting, besides the program yesterday, a public
event at the Computer History Museum with the Jeopardy podium and all
(where, I heard, they had a parked hall, with many young kids too), as
well as events happening at UC Berkeley and Stanford. (04)
In yesterday's program, besides IBMers presenting on Watson and its
implication (and IBM's support) to academia and education, they
brought in an outside panel, which included Ashwin Ram (from PARC),
Joe Terdiman (from Kaiser Permanante) and David Israel (from SRI) to
share their thoughts on challenges in education, and what machines can
(or cannot) help now, and in the near future. (05)
(Being a very hot topic as it is) There was some coverage on "Big
Data" and "Analytics" in the day's program as well. (06)
I am not sure if presented material are (or will be made available
