Greetings!

You are invited to a unique symposium at IBM Research in Almaden, California, on Wednesday, November 16 - TRANSFORMING AN INDUSTRY -WATSON IN HIGHER EDUCATION.

Come and explore with IBM and your colleagues the implications of Watson's technology for Higher Education.  Details are below; please register as soon as possible.  Space is limited.  This  symposium will not be repeated.

Watson, named after IBM founder Thomas J. Watson, was built by a team of IBM scientists with valuable help from research partners from Carnegie Mellon University, University of Texas, University of Southern California, University of Massachusetts, University of Trento (Italy), MIT, RPI, and the University of Albany.  The team set out to accomplish a grand challenge — build a computing system that rivals a human’s ability to answer questions posed in natural language with speed, accuracy and confidence. Watson passed its first test on Jeopardy! in February 2011, but the real test will be in applying the underlying systems, data management and analytics technology across different industries, especially in education.  Through its advanced analytical, computing, and storage capabilities, Watson is a technological breakthrough, representing the next wave in computing and information management.  In order to continue to shape the vision and  exert  leadership in higher education research, teaching, and learning,  it is essential  for University leaders to become familiar with Watson.  We hope you accept our invitation to this symposium.

There is an unprecedented 'information explosion' that can paralyze organizations as they address increasingly intertwined issues.  Driving this are today's mounting complex and volatile challenges that call for smarter, collaborative, fact based decision making, now more so than ever, to deliver progress.  A historic opportunity exists to accelerate desired outcomes by embracing analytics as a core management competency.  It's time to demonstrate greater value to the constituents of the education industry.  Watson's technology directly relates to addressing these core challenges for the future.

Join us for an in-depth look at the present and future education industry implications of Watson’s DeepQA technology and how it will impact university administration, research, and curriculum.
