In Montreal from 11 to 14 August, 2009, "Balisage 2009" will continue a
tradition of resolutely substantive annual conferences about the
representation and exploitation of knowledge via markup ("balisage").
It's not for everyone, but for many who participate in developing the
theories and practices of the field, Balisage is the highest-priority
professional event of the year. The preliminary program has just been
published. (See below.) It's worth noting that Montreal in August is a
pleasant and stimulating place to get away to.    (01)

This year's Balisage conference will be preceded (on August 10) by a
day-long /Symposium on Processing XML Efficiently/, with a panel of
world-class developer/practitioners led by Michael Kay (Saxonica). It
might be prudent to register early for this one.    (02)
