We had, on Thursday 12-Jun-2008, a wonderful session with invited
speaker, Dr. Christopher A. Welty (from IBM Research; and Chair, W3C
RIF Working Group) who gave our community a premier presentation on
the next in W3C semantic web standards, "RIF: Rules Interchange
Format."    (01)

A huge "Thank You" to Dr. Welty for this great session and for sharing
your insights and the work product of the W3C-RIF standards group with
all of us. And as always, our appreciations also go out to all who
joined us at the event; especially for
their contributions to the rich discussion during the last segment of
the session.    (02)

Full proceedings of the session are captured on our wiki page, at:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2008_06_12    (03)

In particular, audio recording of the session, as well as the podcast
of it, is now available -
see: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2008_06_12#nid1J0A    (04)

This contribution from Dr. Chris Welty and the W3C-RIF working group,
is adding another key piece in the Ontolog body of knowledge which we
are collectively building. As mentioned, a follow-on session,
scheduled for Thursday 2008.06.26, will be forthcoming, during which
Professor Jos de Bruijn (from Italy), another key member of the
W3C-RIF WG will be joining us, as part of the expert panel on "Rules
in Semantic Web Applications." ... Thank you again, Chris and
everyone!    (05)

Best regards. =ppy    (06)

P.S. we will be featuring invited speaker Dr. Mark Greaves (Director,
Knowledge Systems from Vulcan, Inc.) who will be giving a talk
entitled: "Knowledge Representation in Practice: Project Halo and the
Semantic Web" this Thursday, 19-Jun-2008. ... RSVP now, if you haven't
already (by emailing <peter.yim@xxxxxxxx> off-line.)    (08)

*REMINDER*    (013)

The Ontolog virtual event with invited speaker, Dr. Christopher Welty
(IBM Research; Chair, W3C RIF Working Group) is coming up tomorrow -
Thursday, 12-Jun-2008 (starting at 10:30am PDT / 1:30pm EDT / 17:30
UTC). Dr. Welty will be giving a talk on "RIF: Rules Interchange
Format."    (014)

RIF is the next in semantic web standards. This is the standard for
rules interchange on the semantic web. The W3C RIF Working Group has
been progressing at a glacial pace for 2.5 years but has finally
settled on a "Basic Logic Dialect" (RIF-BLD) as a core rules language
for logic-based rule systems (e.g. FOL, stable-model LP, well founded
LP, etc.). In this talk Dr. Welty will review RIF-BLD, its syntax and
semantics, and talk about future plans.    (015)

This is the first of a two-session sequel -- the next session is
scheduled for Thu 2008.06.26 where we will be having a panel session
on "Rules in Semantic Web Applications." Anyone who sees the
importance of semantic technologies or the semantic web, and would
like to track their development should come join us and exchange
insights with Chris and like-minded folks in the community.    (016)

*RSVP* by e-mailing the sender <peter.yim@xxxxxxxx> off-line (if you
aren't already on the [ontolog-invitation] list, kindly include your
name, affiliation and job title as well) if you are planning to attend
and haven't already responded.    (017)

We look forward to having you at the session. Please refer to the
agenda and call-in details on the session page, whose link appears at
the top of this message.    (018)

Regards.  =ppy    (019)
