Peter,
For the benefit of the your mini-series planning team, I've attached my original email, which has links lost in the text forwarded below. I’ll also exploit this opportunity to add
·
Mark Gahegan (U. of Auckland)
to the list, who I didn’t offer before because I expected his NZ location would make engaging him a challenge. But I should have let Mark, Dalia, and the rest of the team decide whether to tackle that challenge. I know Mark, in particular,
because Chevron funded work with him, some results from which have been published as conference materials (eResearch
Australasia Conference, 2010;
AAPG Annual Conference and Exhibition, 2011). You’ll note that Boyan was also involved in that work.
Yes, I saw Peter Fox’s presentation in session 2, but thought the topic of session 3 was different enough to warrant mentioning him again. Sadly, another candidate that probably occurred to us all is Rob Raskin.

Great suggestions, Scott. Really appreciate the input!
We definitely share your views as most of the names you suggested were
also brought up before during our earlier organizing team meetings. In
fact, we already had Peter Fox presenting at session-2 of the series
on Sep-6 (ref.
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2012_09_06#nid3EOA
).
You may also be aware (ref.
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?EarthScienceOntolog#nid3CWF )
that the focus of the next two sessions will be on the "4) Review of
the field of ontologies for earth science (and existing ontologies)"
and "5) Tutorials."
... by copying our mini-series organizing team here, I am passing
along your suggestions for possible consideration by our session-5
co-chairs as well, so that champions of the next two sessions could
optimize the alignment between their session topics and potential
panelists' expertise.
Thanks & regards. =ppy
