Ninety-fifth meeting of the IAOA Executive Council (EC)
Virtual Meeting of 23 Jan 2014    (07)

Attendees:
Stefano Borgo
Michael Gruninger (Chair)
Giancarlo Guizzardi (invited)
Marion Haemmerli
Janna Hastings
Oliver Kutz
Frank Loebe
Fabian Neuhaus
Leo Obrst
Laure Vieu (Treasurer)    (08)

During the last two weeks before the meeting there has been a general
discussion by email between EC members on how to manage the FOIS budget in
relation to the overall IAOA budget. This concerned especially dealing with
student grants, given the benefit-and-loss liability between IAOA and the
FOIS organizers, and the binding character of the IAOA budget approval. The
EC recollected the different views that emerged and analyzed possible
scenarios. Main concerns regard the possibilities to increase/reduce student
grants depending on positive/negative circumstances. The EC clarified that
planned expenditures in an approved IAOA budget shall not be exceeded,
including in the case of unforeseen additional revenues. The EC decided
further to accommodate FOIS 2014 student grants in the IAOA budget by a
separate line item, a.o. for the visibility of this engagement in comparison
to IAOA support for other events.    (09)

Overall, FOIS 2014 seems to be solidly planned by the organizers and well
secured by extra funds from supporting agencies. A decision on the amount of
student funding is postponed to a later stage and will rely on an updated
FOIS budget.    (010)

Regarding the relocation of IAOA, a hosting organization remains to be
found. The President will contact institutes in Switzerland. The Treasurer
will add an entry to the IAOA budget for foreseeable relocation expenses. A
specific announcement on the relocation effort will be made when presenting
the budget, the timeline for a membership ballot extends to the Assembly
during FOIS 2014.    (011)

Fabian Neuhaus has been appointed as the next IAOA Treasurer. Claudio Masolo
has been appointed as the first IAOA Membership Officer. Each one will
assume corresponding duties from the current Treasurer, Laure Vieu. The
change of roles is intended for the near future, but depends partially on
the possibilities to access and manage the IAOA bank account in English.
Options for resolution will be examined.    (012)

Then second meeting of the Semantic Web Applied Ontology (SWAO) SIG [1] is
scheduled for Feb 3, 10 am EST / 4 pm CET / UTC (GMT) 15:00.    (013)
