The Election Committee, in agreement with the EC, had extended the voting
period of the 2013 EC election to Friday Oct 04 (23:59 CEST) since only a
few votes were needed to reach the quorum of 71 votes. Voting results will
be distributed within a few days after the ballot closes. The newly elected
EC members will take seat from Jan 01, 2014 but, as done in the past, will
be invited to the EC meetings starting from the public announcement of the
election results. (09)
The EC discussed options to simplify the procedure of voting. A change of
the software will be considered. Furthermore, there is the need to advise
people when they try to change the password after their membership expired.
The procedure works fine but they are not advised that they still cannot
access the member's area due to the lack of membership renewal. (010)
The organizers of the FOIS and IAOA Summer School in 2014 are writing
funding proposals to submit to Brazilian agencies. Corresponding calls are
expected in November. At least four lecturers are planned for the Summer
School, for which candidates are currently being invited. A call for
students for the Summer School will be distributed shortly after the
lecturers are confirmed. (011)
The EC discussed the funding guidelines for IAOA Supported Events in the
light of recent experiences. A new proposal is to allow for funding a
limited number of students individually, at least if the IAOA funding of a
Supported Event does not cover student funds. (012)
It is noted that the relationship between IAOA SIGs and the EC should be
strengthened, in particular to incentivize activities. (013)
Since there have been several positive replies to the proposal for a SIG
"Semantic Web Applied Ontology", the EC has decided to proceed with its
organization. An announcement will be distributed soon. (014)
(End of Report) (015)
