On Aug 06, 2013, the ballot on the FOIS logo proposals had ended.
Participation in and the result of the ballot were discussed and confirmed.
The winning logo is proposal H, cf. [1]. The EC decided to adopt the winning
logo for the FOIS conference series. In particular, for 2014 the logo design
is mature and will be used in its current form. An official announcement of
the results will be sent to the member's mailing list and the FOIS 2014
website [2] will be updated with the new logo. (09)
Regarding the upcoming annual election of some new members for the IAOA EC,
the Election Committee was established recently. A first meeting will be
scheduled in the next few weeks. (010)
The 23rd International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI),
held between Aug 03 and Aug 09, 2013, featured a "Best papers and theses in
sister conferences track". The EC was informed about the presentation of one
FOIS 2012 best paper, the outreach of that session and the track in general.
Moreover, several recent and upcoming conferences and workshops with a
strong relation to ontology but with no or only weak links to IAOA were
mentioned. This lead to some brainstorming on how to intensify mutual
awareness and visibility, e.g. by advertising the status of "IAOA supported
event". (011)
The Ontology Summit 2013 Hackathon award has not been implemented yet. The
certificates will be distributed and the four 1-year free IAOA memberships
already announced will be processed soon. (012)
FOIS 2014 preparations are proceeding well. As chairs of the Early Career
Symposium were appointed:
* Marion Haemmerli (U. of Lausanne, Switzerland)
* Torsten Hahmann (U. of Toronto, Canada)
* Claudio Masolo (ISTC-CNR, Italy)
There are first versions of the Call for Papers and the Call for Workshops,
to be distributed in the next weeks. Invited speaker candidates are under
discussion among the conference organizers. The EC talked about ideas of how
to attract workshops for FOIS. (013)
The EC, as the steering committee of the workshop series Formal Ontologies
Meet Industry (FOMI), notes that the next edition of the workshop series
needs to be initiated, in order to possibly co-locate with FOIS 2014. A very
brief discussion covered initial thoughts on potential chairs for FOMI 2014. (014)
