********************* Details ************************ (010)
This is our 5th Ontology Summit, a joint initiative by NIST, Ontolog,
NCOR, NCBO and IAOA with the support of our co-sponsors. The theme
adopted for this Summit is: "Creating the Ontologists of the Future"
and was launched on 10-Dec-2009. Like previous years, this Ontology
Summit will comprise of three months of virtual discourse, over our
archived mailing lists, wiki, and virtual panel sessions (like this
one), and will culminate in a 2-day face-to-face workshop/symposium to
be held on Mon & Tue, 15 & 16-March-2010 at NIST (Gaithersburg,
Maryland, USA.) (011)
The last two virtual sessions will be hosted at the Ontolog Forum this
coming Thursday (Mar-4) and the immediate following Thursday (Mar-11). (012)
On the Mar-4 "Synthesis" session, we shall be spending time at this
session to look through the survey results and make sense of of the
collective community input. Each of our 3 survey/study champions will
present the collected results, make a first cut synthesis effort, and
in particular, identify specific input that might impact what we
produce as our consolidated "training content" document. Our co-lead
editors of the Communique will also be presenting their plan to get us
organized for this Summit's Communique. (013)
The Mar-11 "Sync-up" session will be devoted to getting the community
ready for the Symposium (Mar-15 & 16). The session will start with a
presentation of our draft Summit Communique by the co-lead editors,
followed by commentaries from the panel of co-editors, made up of all
the Summit Track co-champions. The session will then open up to
general Q&A and discussion, which will revolve around, (a) fine tuning
the draft deliverables, (b) identifying open issues that need to be
discussed at length during the symposium, and (c) covering all Q&A on
logistics or other issues relating to the 2010.03.15 & 16 Symposium at
NIST. (014)
These two sessions, like all Ontolog virtual events, are open and free
of charge. Anyone who is interested, or (better still) who may have
something to contribute, is welcome. Please refer to event details on
the session pages, to which the hyperlink is given above, where you
will find session agenda, conference call dial-in, slides and other
pertinent information. Feel free to pass this invitation along to
colleagues who may also find these sessions to be of interest. (015)
Remote participants please *RSVP* by emailing Peter Yim at
<peter.yim@xxxxxxxx> offline with your name, affiliation and session
you are attending (or add yourself directly to the session page if you
are already an Ontolog or Ontology Summit community member) so that we
can prepare enough resources to support everyone. [Please state
clearly the date of the session you are registering for in your
email.] ... All respondents will be subscribed (if they aren't
already so) to the [ontology-summit] mailing list so they are
participate in the virtual discourse. (016)
Do note that on-site participants at the Mar. 15 & 16 symposium must
be pre-registered to attend (due to the fact that this will be held at
NIST, a US Government Facility.) Register now if you haven't already.
