Steffen Lindek studied physics in Aachen, Lausanne, and Heidelberg. He did his PhD thesis at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Heidelberg, where he developed novel high-resolution light-microscopy techniques. From 1996 to 1999, he was a post-doctoral fellow with the BioImage project at EMBL and worked on the design and the implementation of the BioImage database for microscopy images.    (12NL)

Since 2000, Steffen has been working as a freelance metadata consultant for companies and institutes in the media and life sciences sector, mostly in the UK and in Germany.    (12NM)

One of Steffen's foci is the analysis and mapping of business processes into data models. He worked in the field of the Digital Object Identifier (DOI), as a consultant for the International DOI Foundation and for several of its members. He was also involved in projects based on the <indecs> framework such as the MPEG-21 RDD project, and in building ontologies to support XML messaging standards such as DDEX and ONIX. Recently, he has been working with Rightscom on data modeling, ontology development, semantic engineering and vocabulary mapping (e. g. on the Vocabulary Mapping Framework).    (12NN)
