Bio: see - http://dbmi.ucsd.edu/confluence/display/DBMI/Son+Doan,+PhD    (1BP7)

My interests lie in text mining and natural language processing (NLP) area. I obtained PhD degree from JAIST, Japan in 2005 in computer science. I joined DBMI at UCSD since May 2012. Prior to it, I worked as a postdoc/researcher at National Institute of Informatics, Japan and Vanderbilt University.    (3O9I)

My main interest is building real-life biomedical text applications as well as knowledge discovery from biomedical literature. Besides, I am interested working on public mood tracking on Twitter data. I have been a key contributor to widely recognized application systems such as BioCaster in public health surveillance and MedEx in clinical informatics. Several our research results was mentioned to public, e.g., research on social media in epidemic intelligence (Nature), or the research on public mood tracking in 2011 Tohoku earthquake in Japan (New Scientist, CorpComm)    (3O9K)
