'ONTOLOGY DEVELOPMENT: AN INTEGRATED ENGINEERING APPROACH' (1049)
Ontology engineering (OE) is becoming increasingly critical to systems development, yet the current understanding of ontology, especially regarding development and application of standard, methods and practices, according to recent research does not meet the growing challenges arising from the complexity of increasingly dynamic environments. This presentation analyses development activities as scheduled in the most commonly adopted ontology engineering methodologies (OEM), and identifies activities that have become central to modern engineering practices - such as requirements engineering, user centered engineering and knowledge engineering - to be of critical importance to ontology development, and proposes steps towards an integrated approach and methodology.
