Larry has over 25 years experience in the design, development, implementation, and deployment of knowledge-based technologies in industry and academia, as well as the growth and management of professional services and software development organizations. As the Executive Director for Business Solutions at Cycorp, he is responsible for increased commercialization and application of the Cyc knowledge-based technology. Prior to joining Cycorp, Larry was an Executive Directory in Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bellcore) Business Optimization Services business unit, where he developed and directed multi-million dollar operational improvement and process and organizational optimization engagements in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. As part of Bellcores Computer Technology Transfer organization, Larry headed the design and development of a state-of-the-art Intelligent Tutoring System for training on telephony operations and use of complex operations support systems. He was the co-founder and director of the Laboratory for Computer-Supported Cooperative Work at the University of Massachusetts, where he directed research in the areas of artificial intelligence, knowledge representation, planning, and plan recognition. Larry Lefkowitz received his Ph.D. and MS in Computer and Information Science from the University of Massachusetts (Amherst, MA) and his B.E. in Electrical Engineering from The Cooper Union (NYC). His publications and invited presentations span areas including knowledge representation, planning and plan modeling, intelligent tutoring, knowledge acquisition, and the application of semantic technologies.
