Daniel Schwabe is Professor at the Department of Informatics, PUC-Rio. His main research is focused on "hybrid" information systems - hypermedia applications that are part of a men-machine team that perform tasks. A particular focus of this research has been in model-based (and specifically ontology-driven) application design and development, notably in the context of the Semantic Web. One of the topics investigated is the use of formalized Design Rationale vocabularies, applied to design problems that can be seen as instantiations of some meta-model (e.g., most software development activities). One of the main examples of this approach is the support for Communities of Practice, which has been developed as part of a cooperation project with a large energy company. Within this project, the use of Design Rationale to record community decisions is also being explored. (1DRD)
