Agenda Ideas (81M)
- decide on our regular weekly call next week (Thu 2003.11.27 is Thanksgiving in the US) (81N)
- From Kurt: (81O)
- Open question: How to proceed with planning session started at face-to-face? (81P)
- Practical considerations drive the recommendation to continue the planning exercise with those who attended the face-to-face. Kurt's concern is that this would be viewed negatively (not an "open" process). (81Q)
- If continuing the planning process where it left off is agreeable, Kurt will send emails directly to the "planning team" to drive the next steps. (81R)
- If one or two people want to be included, Kurt can probably get them up to speed, but if there is desire for broad participation, it may be impractical to continue the current conversation and a new one should be initiated. (81S)
Agenda & Proceedings (81T)
1) Welcome (81U)
2) Appointment of secretary to take minutes (81W)
3) Roll-call of participants (81Y)
- see above (81Z)
- The group welcomed CeceliaHickels who joined us for the first time (subscribed to the list a few days ago, on the urge of KurtConrad). She is trying to develop an ontology for a high-end business application. She will be able to help us with adoption and usability from some of the work she did in the past. (820)
- She is looking at RDF (as OWL points people to that too), and asked for people's comment. (821)
- Pat responded that he is more concerned with content than representation. He gave Cecelia a short run down on the various representations available. Pat is looking for real use cases himself. (822)
- Cecelia suggested for Pat to look up Mark Walter at Seybold (as Mark is taking a similar position.) <mwalter at seyboldreport.com> (823)
- Peter suggested that she can take a look at (as BobSmith suggested at the nov-03 workshop) the Daconta, Obrst & Smith "Semantic Web" book, and at what LeoObrst's was going to present for the Nov-03 workshop (which we are still planning to get Leo to present at a future conference call.) (824)
- She is looking at RDF (as OWL points people to that too), and asked for people's comment. (821)

4) Follow-up from face-to-face meeting (November 5-7, 2003) http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologWorkshop_Nov_2003 (825)
- How to proceed with planning session started at face-to-face? see: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Conference_Call_2003-11-20#nid030 (826)
- Pat suggests that we should keep things in the open so people can comment on them (827)
- Bill is not a big fan of planning. He suggested that we post the artifacts and then allot a time (one of the Thursday calls, say) and continue that over a call. (828)
- Bob wants to see we proceed and bring it to some conclusion (829)
- Cecelia said that she will be happy to participate in the exercise too. (82A)
- Conclusion: (82B)
- solicit posting of notes and other material from the meeting (82F)
- Kurt -- participants goals for the workshop; planning (wip) material (82G)
- Bob -- update of the powerpoint file used (82H)
- Adam -- ontology tutorial powerpoint file; formalization tutorial SUO-KIF codes (82I)
- Bill -- picture of co-presentors (Elmo and Cookie Monster) -- Bill will email that to Peter today. (82J)
- Pat -- the sumo ontology on Protege is 98% done now, he'll replace the ones on the shared directory and solicit people's review and comments. (82K)
5) Peter's meeting with NIST during week of 2003.11.10 (82O)
- NIST has expressed interest, and Peter will be following this up with their program management people on possible support (82P)
- one possibility is for NIST to establish a set of requirements that drives interoperability, among various ontological engineering efforts, that will be demonstrated at a forthcoming industry event. (82Q)
6) Formalization and related issues (82R)
- status on Adam's assign formalization exercises (one term each -- to all participants at the F2F workshop) (82S)

- Bill wants to see that exercise Adam started at the workshop to be continued (82U)
7) Other business (82V)
- Pending future sessions (82W)
Kurt / Peter to work up a agenda for the following few weeks. (831)
