3) Roll-call of participants (1KNW)

- Introductions (All) & everyone's expectations (on this session) (1KNZ)
- KurtConrad: get back in touch with the community (1KRJ)
- PeterYim: keep us relevant ... reality check (1KRK)
- DougHolmes: Expectations - 1). at least one "concrete" project that ONTOLOG supports 2). Explore a theme for the next Ontology Summit 3). Near term direction for OOR (1KRL)
- KenBaclawski: Expectations - Opportunities for interesting and important academic research projects. OOR is a good example of this. (1KRM)
- MikeBennett: glad to have found Ontolog ... help get the prorgam going (1KRN)
- MichelleRaymond: Expectations - 1). Congratulations to Ontolog for excellent work to date, an environment gathering fantastic minds together, and an incredibly rich collection of knowledge. 2). Continue to keep Ontolog "open". 3). Encourage (facilitate?) further connection with other communities, such as Standards organizations and the U.S. Collaborative Expedition Workshop. 4). Formulate policy or practices for bi-focating projects incubated by Ontolog into a) the Ontolog open portion of projects and b) the "potentially" non-open/partly-open work and tools and/or externally funded research and development projects. (1KRO)
- BobSmith: ... wisdom (1KS3)
4) assess how we are doing in terms of "relevance" and "value to our membership"; future direction and action planning discussion (1KO0)
- Relevance (1KRQ)
- Mike: Ontolog is doing a great job now ... (1KRR)
- Ken: a mini-series like "Database and Ontology" was great ... that format can help us attract and involve other communities (1KRS)
- Michelle: we're doing a lot of things right ... people are getting a lot out of the work ... OOR work, series works (DB, OKMDS, Measure & Quality, ...) were great ... do something that sounds a bit crazy that might become a reality down the road (1KRT)
- Doug: Ontolog is a very diverse community ... the virtual events have been great ... great presentations, but no discussion on the forum follows (1KRU)
- Peter: yes, very diverse ... almost disjoint activities and community segments (1KRV)
- Kurt: huge energy ... definitely sustainable ... almost difficult to define a focus (1KRW)
- Weakness, Improvements & Going Forward: (1KRX)
- Doug: things look fine ... will defer on this (1KRY)
- Mike: background program to help people assess (1KRZ)
- Kurt: ... could be political (1KS0)
- Mike: tagging the content? (1KS4)
- Michelle: Going Forward: 1). Provide a Ontolog dashboard (google app?). 2). Use the Ontolog knowledge base as a content repository for use in the OOR work by "placing" an Ontology over the knowledge base and thus facilitating the use of Ontology Technology tools to better interact with the Ontolog knowledge base. 3). Have sessions on specifically "touchy" or "hard" or "futuristic" ontology problems to generate discussion and to encourage work on those problems (1KS1)
- Peter: the ontolog wiki "Recent Changes" are available as an RSS feed (1KS2)
- Kurt: digest (1KS5)
- Ken: student research projects (1KS6)
- Peter: we need tools to help navigate the rich body of knowledge ... but we do have quite a bit of smart data already (data tagged with metadata when we capture them). (1KS7)
- migration toward purple semantic mediawiki ... the OOR effort will come into play, I'm sure (1KS8)
5) plan events for the next two quarters and beyond (1KO2)
- see Inventory of Planned and Candidate Ontolog Events & Projects - /WhatsInStore (1KRG)
- "Ontology Showcase" series - co-champion: KenBaclawski / MikeBennett (1KSN)
- ref. Emerging ontological work products showcase - let's do 2 per session, on 3~5 consecutive weeks - first one starting 9/18 or 9/25 (1KSG)
- we need to finish this on/before Thu 2008.10.16 so that people don't run into schedule conflicts with their attendance at ISWC-2008 & FOIS-2008 (ref: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?RelevantEventsOfInterest2008#nidPAQ ) (1L2P)
- "Ask the Experts" project - co-champion: KurtConrad / BobSmith / SvenVanPoucke(?) (1KSO)
- Sven first proposed the idea (as a mini-series, in May 2008), let's see if he is willing to co-champion this along with Kurt and Bob (1L18)
- Ken / Kurt suggested: start a page where people can ask questions (to ontology experts) (1KSJ)
- when enough question accumulate and can be clustered, we can feature an "Ask the Experts" type session (which Sven proposed before) (1KSK)
- Bob / Ken / Mike: be aware that most people don't care about "ontology", or even if they do, they don't call it by that "O" word (1KSP)
- Peter: our speaker series, major initiatives (like ontology summit, OKMDS) and the online forums seem to be almost disjoint - this project might be a way to integrate things a bit (1L17)
we got this far on the agenda ... will continue the discussion same time next week (1KSQ)
