The Materials & Manufacturing Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory, is striving to reduce the time for discovery and development of new materials. This requires greater emphasis on computational approaches, high-throughput experiment, and materials informatics. Ontologies offer the potential to ease interoperability and infer new relationships between materials processes, resulting morphological changes, and properties. My role in the organization is to identify ways to enhance materials informatics within the organization and contribute to the materials development community at large.
