This is a good example of URl helping understand and convert from one unit to another if operation is implied?

Can you give examples of how this knowledge can be extended beyond unit conversion?

The QUDT ontologies provide ontological support for units conversion. Holger Knublauch, of TopQuadrant, recently published a way of converting the units specified in the QUDT ontologies  using SPIN, SPARQL Inferencing Notation (see http://www.spinrdf.org).
