I am writing to let everyone know that proceedings from today's Joint
SIO-OOR-Ontolog Panel Discussion - "Common Logic (CL) Support for OOR"
- are now online.    (01)

This panel session was chaired by Dr. John Sowa (Vivomind
Intelligence). Presentations on state-of-the-art Common Logic / FOL
-based work were presented by our panelists: Professor John Bateman &
Dr. habil. Till Mossakowski (Bremen U), Professor Michael Gruninger (U
of Toronto), Mr. Cameron Ross (Kojeware), Mr. Adam Pease (Articulate
Software), with comments from Dr. Pat Hayes and other participants at
the session. The purpose was for everyone to share their latest work
and ideas, and to explore how synergies may be developed among these
researchers and developers, and have that work contribute to the
ongoing OOR (Open Ontology repository) and SIO (Sharing and
Integrating Ontologies) efforts.    (02)

The full proceedings - including agenda, abstracts, slides, audio
recording, transcript of the in-session chat, as well as the final
list of attendees/registrants are all online now, and can be accessed
from the session page on the OntologWiki
at: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2010_09_10    (03)

I would like to thank our chair and panelists for their contribution,
and thank everyone who joined us at the session too. I believe
everyone came off very impressed on the progress that has been gained
in R&D evolving around the (relatively new) Common Logic (ISO/IEC
24707) standard. The archived material, which captured today's
presentations, demonstrations and discussion will, indeed, be
providing reference to other researchers and developers in the field,
and is contributing an important piece in the collective body of
knowledge that this community has been building, since our inception.
... Thank you ALL!    (04)

Sincerely. =ppy    (05)

Subject: OOR-IPR mini-series, and other Ontolog virtual events in Sep-2010
To: "[ontolog-invitation]" <ontolog-invitation@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>    (025)

September 2010 will be an exciting month at Ontolog as we will be
rolling our three (3) mini-series sessions to specifically address IPR
(Intellectual Property Rights) issues relating to the "open ontology
repository (OOR)" initiative (which will, invariably, touch upon IPR
issues pertaining to ontology in general as well.)    (026)

There will also be two OOR specific sessions, one relating to "Common
Logic (CL) support for OOR" and the other, entitled "OOR-Development -
Take-4."    (027)

You are cordially invited to join us at these Ontolog events!    (028)

*****************************************************    (036)

The "OOR-IPR mini-series" will, hopefully, start a dialog among the
global ontology community, to specifically address IPR issues relating
to the "open ontology repository (OOR)" initiative. The discussion
will, invariably, touch upon IPR issues pertaining to ontology in
general as well. This mini-series is jointly organized by the
OOR-team, the Ontolog-community, NCBO (US National Center for
Biomedical Ontology), CC (Creative Commons), IAOA (the International
Association for Ontology and its Applications) and OASIS (Organization
for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards).    (037)

Given the complexity of the issues involved, one can look as this
mini-series to merely be the beginning of a quest, by the
collaborating parties and their communities, to fully understand the
issues, and to get themselves into a position to address them. As a
community, I trust we will, over the course of this mini-series and
subsequent actions and events, address a very important set of issues,
that really have to be cleared, before one can stand up effective open
ontology repositories, and the world can get the most out of the
potentials in science & technology of ontology and semantics. ...
Please also refer to details on the OOR-IPR mini-series at the
program's homepage at:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OpenOntologyRepository_IPR    (038)

These sessions will be delivered as augmented conference calls
(webinars). Like all Ontolog virtual events, they are open and free of
charge. Anyone who is interested, or (better still) who may have
something to contribute, is welcome. Please refer to event details on
the session page, to which the hyperlink is given above, where you
will find the session agenda, conference call dial-in, slides and
other pertinent information. Feel free to pass this invitation along
to colleagues who may also find these sessions to be of interest.    (039)

*RSVP* by emailing Peter Yim at <peter.yim@xxxxxxxx> offline with your
name, affiliation and session you are attending (or add yourself
directly to the session page if you are already an Ontolog or OOR
community member) so that we can prepare enough resources to support
everyone. [Please state clearly the date of the session you are
registering for in your rsvp message.]    (040)

These sessions will be recorded and made available in a publicly
accessible archive. Therefore, before participating, please make sure
you are cognizant of our IPR policy (ref:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?WikiHomePage#nid32).    (041)
