Proceedings: OKMDS session-05 - Dr. Richard Keller, Dr. Robert Raskin
& Mr. Ralph Hodgson - "Organizing Science Knowledge for Discovery at
NASA" - Thu 2008.03.20    (01)

The 5th event of our Ontology in Knowledge Management and Decision
Support (OKMDS)" mini-series of activities representing a
NASA-Ontolog-KMWG collaboration took place on Thursday 20-March-2008.    (02)

Entitled: "Organizing Science Knowledge for Discovery at NASA," the
session was co-chaired by Mr. Andrew Schain (NASA/HQ) and Ms. Jeanne
Holm (NASA/JPL). Speaking at the session were:    (03)

  * Dr, Richard Keller (NASA Ames Research Center) who gave a talk on
"ScienceOrganizer: A semantics-based Repository for Distributed NASA
Science Teams"    (04)

  * Dr. Robert Raskin from NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the
California Institute of Technology, who talked about "Development of a
Community Ontology for Earth System Science" and the SWEET Ontology
(Semantic Web for Earth and Environmental Terminology), and    (05)

  * Mr. Ralph Hodgson from TopQuadrant, who has been involved as a
contractor in the NASA Constellation Project, talking about "The NASA
Constellation Program Ontologies - how they are supporting NASA
Constellation Program Data Architecture and its applications."    (06)

Together, this expert panel provided us with a rare opportunity to get
a glimpse at some of the most wonderful work NASA folks have been
doing in the semantics and ontological engineering space.    (07)

A huge "thank you" goes to to all the panelists as well as to everyone
who was able to join us at the session. Proceedings of the session has
been captured on our wiki page, at:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2008_03_20    (08)

In particular, screen-shots from our virtual world venue are now
available. So are the full audio recording and the podcast of the
session. See details on the audio archive at:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2008_03_20#nid1BKN    (09)

Thanks and Regards,    (010)

*REMINDER*    (014)

The 5th event of the joint NASA-Ontolog-KMWG "Ontology in Knowledge
Management and Decision Support (OKMDS)" mini-series is coming
tomorrow - Thursday, 20-March-2008 (starting at 10:30am PDT / 1:30pm
EDT / 17:30 UTC).    (015)

Presenting at this episode of the OKMDS mini-series will be Dr.
Richard Keller (NASA/ARC), Dr. Robert Raskin (NASA/JPL) and Mr. Ralph
Hodgson (TopQuadrant & NASA Constellation Project) with Ms. Jeanne
Holm (NASA/JPL) chairing this panel session.    (016)

This virtual event will be offered in our normal 'real world'
augmented conference call settings, and also (simultaneously) at the
NASA/JPL Explorer Island in the "Second Life" 'virtual world'
settings. [... The latter is for those who are familiar with, or who
would want to explore the possibilities of virtual world events. (I've
been asked by quite a few, and would like to explain here, that ...)
An attendee will be able to attend the session remotely just by having
phone and Internet access. Slides and audio recording of the session
will be made available after the event too. ]    (017)

Join us at tomorrow's session to see a few case examples of how our
colleagues from NASA are applying semantic technologies to help them
Organizing Science Knowledge for Discovery.    (018)

*RSVP* by e-mailing the sender off-line (if you aren't already a
[kmgov] or Ontolog member, kindly include your name, affiliation and
job title as well) if you are planning to attend and haven't already
responded.    (019)

We look forward to having you at the session. Please refer to all
agenda and call-in details on the session page, whose link appears at
the top of this message.    (020)

Regards,    (021)
