The 4th event of our Ontology in Knowledge Management and Decision
Support (OKMDS)" mini-series of activities representing a
NASA-Ontolog-KMWG collaboration took place on Thursday
21-February-2008.    (01)

Entitled: "How Knowledge Management Supports Decision Making in the
(US) Federal Government," the session was chaired by Ms. Jeanne Holm
(NASA/JPL) and featured veteran Knowledge Management (KM)
practitioners and members of the (US Federal) KMWG leadership, Mr.
Giora Hadar (from the (US) Federal Aviation Administration) and Dr.
Michael Kull (from the (US) Nuclear Regulatory Commission.) The
session included talks from the invited speakers, respectively on:
"Using Social Computing Tools for Decisionmaking" by Mr. Hadar, and
"Starting a Change Reaction" by Dr. Kull. That was followed by a
lively Q & A and discussions between the participants and the
panelists. And, like our previous OKMDS sessions, this virtual event
was offered in our normal augmented conference call settings, and
simultaneously at the NASA/JPL Explorer Island in the "Second Life"
virtual world settings.    (02)

A huge "thank you" goes to to all the panelists as well as to everyone
who was able to join us at the session and contributed to the rich
discussion at the last segment of the session.    (03)

Proceedings of the session are captured on our wiki page, at:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2008_02_21    (04)

In particular, screen-shots from our virtual world venue are now
available. So are the full audio recording and the podcast of the
session. See details on the audio archive at:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2008_02_21#nid19P8    (05)

As mentioned previously, this "Ontology in Knowledge Management and
Decision Support (OKMDS)" mini-series will span about 6 months, with
one virtual session every month, and an online discourse that will be
conducted over the [okmds-convene] mailing list. So, mark your
calendars now for the next event: Thu 2008.03.20 featuring
""Organizing Science Knowledge for Discovery at NASA." We look forward
to seeing you on the discussion list and at our next session.    (06)

Thanks and Regards,    (07)

 *REMINDER*    (011)

The 4th event of the joint NASA-Ontolog-KMWG "Ontology in Knowledge
Management and Decision Support (OKMDS)" mini-series is coming
 imminently - Thursday, 21-February-2008 (starting at 10:30am PST /
 1:30pm EST / 18:30 UTC).    (012)

Presenting at this episode of the OKMDS mini-series will be Mr. Giora
Hadar (FAA) and Dr. Michael Kull (NRC) with Ms. Jeanne Holm (NASA/JPL)
 chairing this panel session.    (013)

This virtual event will be offered in our normal 'real world'
augmented conference call settings, and also (simultaneously) at the
NASA/JPL Explorer Island in the "Second Life" 'virtual world'
settings. [... The latter is for those who are familiar with, or who
would want to explore the possibilities of virtual world events. (I've
been asked by quite a few, and would like to explain here, that ...)
An attendee will be able to attend the session remotely just by having
phone and Internet access. Slides and audio recording of the session
will be made available after the event too. ]    (014)

Join us for the discussion too as we exchange insights after we learn
about two ends of the KM spectrum from the FAA and Nuclear Regulatory
Commission looking at how a KM system (Hadar) and storytelling (Kull)
have helped the government personnel and the public to make better
 decisions.    (015)

*RSVP* by e-mailing the sender off-line (if you aren't already a
[kmgov] or Ontolog member, kindly include your name, affiliation and
job title as well) if you are planning to attend and haven't already
 responded.    (016)

We look forward to having you at the session. Please refer to all
agenda and call-in details on the session page, whose link appears at
the top of this message.    (017)

 Regards,    (018)
