It has been my experience that the field
of petrology has a history of pioneering high-level earth science technology.
For example, 3-D GIS software.
I will happily look at the project - it seems like a good candidate.
Sure, Gary, but it’s better to have more to choose from, and a spectrum, than less. I don’t know if Alex would work in any of the sessions, but thought to point to the possibility. (aka Deepsea Dawn) whose work is in oceanography is noteworthy. I think that we need to reach out to the broad EC community hear more from them and get them into discussion so we in the semantic community better understand their needs and how they talk about things. I also think that later mini-sessions should be designed to build on this understanding. I would be excited to hear about Alex's work in a regular Ontolog session, but I wasn't sure that it was focused enough for EarthScience. He might be able to do that, but my impression is that it isn't clear it would be at the top of the list for inclusion. The session has only one speaker so far, Luis, and there is definitely room to invite others. of course, a full review would be very hard to do. thought of inviting 'representative' speakers from different domains, such as Dawn W. whose work is in oceanography, and to invite specialists from other areas, such as atmospheric science, geology, etc. Assuming we will be able to oranize a good session of approximately 5 presentations, we will still have others who bring attention to their own work, such as the project described below. Perhaps we can organize a resources page or summary in print to populate with as many references as possible.
It might be useful and interesting for chairs of the next 4 mini-series to consider Alex for a panel presentation.
