The EC discussed the final versions of the proposals to host FOIS in 2014. The
proposal from Brazil has been accepted. FOIS 2014 will be held in Rio de
Janeiro (Brazil) in September 2014. Subject to final review of the summer
school proposal, the IAOA Summer School 2014 may possibly be held in Brazil too
(a week earlier in Victoria has been proposed.) The EC has started to consider
who to invite to chair the Program Committee of the FOIS 2014 conference. (011)
The remaining issues about the change in the EC members have been discussed, in
particular what needs to be changed from the legal aspects and to change
responsibility for the bank account from the President to the Treasurer. As the
Association is growing, there is more interest in separating management from
executive (operations vs. decision-making) roles. (012)
The EC discussed a policy in the case of a conflict-of-interest for an EC
member. In such situation, the affected EC member will excuse himself/herself
from the meeting for the duration of that discussion. While exercising caution
to make sure we stay "open and transparent" as specified in the Statute
(Article 28), the option of speaking "off-the-record" during an EC meeting will
also be available, during which (snippet of) time, the audio recording will be
temporarily paused. (013)
The EC was updated on the plans for Ontology Summit 2013. A community
brainstorm and planning session will be on Dec. 13, 2012 and on Dec. 14 the
first organizing committee meeting will be held. The Ontology Summit 2013 will
be officially launched on Jan. 17, 2013. Proposed theme for 2013: "Ontology
Evaluation Across the Ontology Lifecycle". Participation from IAOA members is
encouraged. (014)
