Dear all,
let me forward to everybody in this list the invitation to participate to the Ontology Summit 2012 (first discussion session tomorrow). From this year, the Ontology Summit will be an event regularly co-organized by the IAOA, together with other organisations and institutions, and co-chaired by a person nominated by IAOA.
The theme chosen this year - ontology for big systems - marks in my opinion the maturity of our field, and a radical shift in the level of ambition concerning applied ontology: from computational ontologies as a tool to *facilitate* interoperability among information systems, to ontological analysis as a tool to *understand* big complex systems.
The discussion is open. I really encourage all IAOA members, and in general all people interested in ontology and its applications, to get involved.
Nicola Guarino President, IAOA general co-chair, Ontology Summit 2012 Begin forwarded message: Subject: [ontology-summit] Welcome to Ontology Summit 2012, and Session-02 - Thu 2012.01.19 (tomorrow)
Date: 18 January 2012 22:48:32 CET
Welcome, all, to Ontology Summit 2012: Ontology for Big Systems. Please join us at Session-02 tomorrow, where the individual Track Champions will describe and discuss their tracks, and provide guidelines and focus for the subsequent discussions. (Please refer to the invitation below, and RSVP, if you haven't already.) Also note that the Track Champions will be making their initial posts to the [ontology-summit] mailing list shortly, describing their respective tracks, to kick-start the virtual asynchronous (mailing list) discussion. The wiki pages for the tracks are available at: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2012#nid309M. These include track open pages (open for all interested persons to participate in) and track synthesis pages (only for track champions, who will be synthesizing over time the discussions and contributions for their respective tracks). To make sure you are tracking the latest developments, please see the main Ontology Summit 2012 page: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2012. Let the discussions begin!
