Forty-eight meeting of the IAOA Executive Council (EC)
Virtual Meeting of 5 Oct 2011    (07)

Attendees:
Nicola Guarino (chair)
John Bateman
Stefano Borgo
Riichiro Mizoguchi
Leo Obrst
Peter Yim
Laure Vieu    (08)

The EC was informed by the Education Committee regarding the organization of
the IAOA Summer School in 2012. The Committee has proposed two locations for
the Summer School: Graz (Austria) and Trento (Italy). The period is still under
consideration: either early in the summer or just before FOIS.
Differently from the Summer Institute (organized in July this year), the Summer
School will be organized as a series of courses and tutorials.    (09)

The EC discussed how to organize the infrastructure to support the writing of
an ontology textbook. To be consistent with the IAOA Open IPR Policy, as
included in the new proposed version of the IAOA Statute, the EC discussed and
confirmed that the material will be collaboratively developed under an open
license. The discussion will be reported to the Education Committee, and we
will seek the Committee's recommendation on the choice of license.    (010)

The EC has been informed that the InfoTerm agreement is now signed by the two
parties and will be put online.    (011)

The Standardization Coordination Committee is ready. IAOA members can contact
John Bateman and Michael Gruninger for issues related to standards.    (012)

The Infrastructure Committee reported that most of the system to support SIG
activities, blog space, wikis and so on, is now in place. The President will
send a message to the IAOA members to present the new available features. We
are planning to organize a couple of virtual sessions to familiarize members
with the operations, and to help kick-off activities in the committees and SIGs
on this virtual infrastructure. All members are welcome to test and use the
system. All IAOA members will have full access to the virtual Committee and SIG
workspaces.    (013)

The EC has approved a new version of the IAOA Statute. This version of the
Statute is a revision initiated with the writing of the IAOA Bylaws and is
needed to crosschecking content and consistency. Some content previously in the
Statute has been dropped and will be included in the Bylaws. The President will
distribute to the IAOA members the new version of the Statute for feedbacks.
The finalized version will be voted during the IAOA Assembly in July 2012.    (014)

(End of Report)    (015)
