Forty-seventh meeting of the IAOA Executive Council (EC)
Virtual Meeting of 8 Sept 2011    (07)

The EC was updated on the progress of the FOIS conference organization and the
interaction with the co-event ICBO (joint session, workshop day etc.).    (09)

The EC started discussing the 2012 IAOA Assembly which will take place during
FOIS. At that time the EC would like to organize also an IAOS Advisory Board
meeting.    (010)

Following the IAOA statute, the EC has expressed its hope that the FOIS
registration fee will be kept low.     (011)

The EC set some important goals for next year. These can be summarized as
follows:
- select a couple of interested associations to start cooperations, possibly
through SIGs
- organize the IAOA summer school
- assemble education material and make it available on the Web site
- activate the standards coordination committee and start interaction with some
major standization bodies    (012)

The EC proceeded discussing the proposal for a SIG on biomedicine. There has
been arguments both 'for' and 'against' establishing such a SIG. The EC feels
that a bottom up approach (encouraging, by seeing if there are people
passionate enough to take the initiative to create and promote such SIG) would
be in order. It is suggested that those who intend to
convene this Biomedicine SIG should leverage the opportunity afforded by the
next FOIS (co-located with ICBO) at Graz in July 2011, to assess and build out
their support-base among the FOIS and ICBO participants that are from the
biomedicine domain.    (013)

The discussion was extended to the other (existing or under development) IAOA
SIGs.
The EC reminds members that the website on SIGs is online at:
http://www.iaoa.org/sig/sig.html
A message dedicated to SIGs will be addressed to all IAOA members.    (014)

Discussion concerning improved visibility measures was continued. Several
potential press releases will be drafted by Ali Hashemi for further
consideration.    (015)

(End of Report)    (016)
