The IAOA EC invited a representative of the Brazilian ontology communities to discuss the status of ontology research and interest, local initiatives and the role that IAOA can play to help coordinate the communities and increase international visibility. The first goal is to increase the number of IAOA members from the Brazilian communities in order to reach enough critical mass to start specific initiatives among which the possibility of a local IAOA chapter.
Similar meetings with representatives from other geographical areas are foreseen.

IAOA EC members involved in the Ontology Summit reported on the activities: discussion on curricula, professional and future requirements is very active; 3 surveys will be conducted as part of the Summit activities: the weight of pure science vs applied engineering in ontology curricula is attracting attention. IAOA EC recognize the interest of some people in the so-called informal approaches. However, in this discussion IAOA endorses the scientific perspective that requires the identification, knowledge and application of ontological principles and methodologies.
A report on what ontology is about from the IAOA viewpoint will be prepared.

The IAOA EC discussed the FOIS WS on education. The call will be distributed shortly.

The IAOA EC started a discussion on the Assembly meetings to identify more clearly the role and the organization for the voting process to ensure wide participation.

(End of Report)
