US Healthcare IT Czar Resigns (03)

The U.S. government official charged with making portable electronic
health records available to most Americans by 2014 has resigned after
only two years on the job, leaving the nation with one less advocate for
using information technology to upgrade healthcare. (05)
David Brailer, the U.S. federal government’s first national health
information technology coordinator, on Thursday evening said he was
leaving the post for family reasons. His replacement has not yet been
named. (06)
Dr. Brailer, who commuted between his home in San Francisco and his job
at U.S. Health and Human Services in Washington D.C., has been credited
with a series of initiatives aimed to hasten the adoption of IT in
healthcare. (07)
Dr. Brailer said he will continue to serve as consultant to Health and
Human Services. He will also serve as vice chair of the American Health
Information Community, which develops standards-based health IT. (08)
