Ontolog-Protégé Workshop - Proposal and Call for Participation    (MQ4)

July 23, 2006 - Stanford, California, USA    (MQ6)

The Ontolog-Protege Workshop is the highlight of the 3rd Ontolog Face-to-Face Meeting & Workshops event. This is a half-day workshop that is held as part of the 9th International Protégé Conference (July 23~26, Stanford, CA, USA).    (MQ5)

Ontolog Community,    (NCA)

Ontolog is again organizing a Face-to-Face meeting. As was the case last time, we are holding it in conjunction with this year's International Protégé Conference.    (NCB)

The 9th International Protégé Conference will be held at Stanford University, in Palo Alto, California. It will run from July 23rd to 26th, 2006. More information (including registration details) can be found at http://protege.stanford.edu/conference/2006/    (NCC)

Ontolog is organizing a full-day workshop on July 23rd, entitled: “Natural, Semi-Formal, and Formal Ontologies: Bridging the Layers, Limits, and Lacunas”.    (NCD)

The workshop is targeted at those individuals who are concerned about the stability and alignment of formalized ontologies in the real world, especially in the context of ontologizing Community of Practice knowlegebases.    (NCE)

This workshop will focus, not only on formalized ontologies, but on the relationships among the natural ontologies which exist within whole systems and efforts to create informal and formalized representations of them.    (NCF)

The development of formalized ontologies is dependent, in large measure, on the nurturing and understanding of shared conceptualizations. The robustness of these natural ontologies can be expected to be critical to the successful development, implementation, and acceptance of ontology-based standards, especially in such areas as health care, emergency response, e-government, and service-oriented architectures (SOA).    (NCG)

Ontolog is soliciting individuals to submit topics for presentation and discussion. To submit a topic for the workshop, the organizers are asking for a brief treatment of the topic (e.g., an abstract and 4-6 Powerpoint slides). As the organizers are hoping for a mix of facilitated sessions and panel discussions, they will work with selected participants to fit their submissions into the agenda and develop appropriate presentation materials.    (NCH)
