Abstract:    (CH4)

MarkGreaves: In this talk I will review the status of the DARPA's DAML program -- the flagship semantic web R&D program in the United States. DAML-funded researchers were key players in the development of OWL, OWL/S (OWL for Services), and SWRL (Semantic Web Rules Language), and they have created a large library of high-quality open source tools accessible at <http://www.semwebcentral.org>. The DAML program ends this year having exceeded its original goals. I will conclude with a discussion of the requirements for a new semantic web program at DARPA, and an invitation to the Ontolog community.    (CH5)

Mark Greaves is Program Manager in DARPA's Information Exploitation Office (IXO) for the DAML and UltraLog Projects. He was previously Program Manager for DARPA's Advanced Logistics Project. At DARPA, he is sponsoring research on logistics and supply chain control technologies, formal ontology specification, semantic web technology, and the application of software agent technology to problems of distributed control of complex systems-of-systems. Prior to coming to DARPA, he led advanced programs in software agent technology at the Mathematics and Computing Technology group of Boeing's Phantom Works division. His main research interests are in mathematical logic and software agent technology, about which he has published two books and over 20 papers. Mark holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University, and can be reached at <mgreaves@darpa.mil>    (CHB)
